ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ tips and answers for Tuesday, January 21

Hey, everyone! I hope your week is going well.

Being a normal human being, I have accumulated some scars in my time on this planet. Some of the surgeries, one from the aforementioned oyster choking mishap and another from trying to hug the TV when I was little.

I wear those scars mostly with pride. They are a part of me and my strange journey on this rock.

All of this is to say that I really admire him kintsugithe beautiful Japanese art of repairing damaged pottery with a varnish often mixed with gold dust. The idea is to treat damage as part of an item’s history rather than something that needs to be masked.

I absolutely relate to that concept. Imperfections are something we should embrace because they help us be more interesting.

Anyway, before we go, I’ve started a discussion group about Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about any game (and other topics) with me and other people. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s a pleasure.

It’s also the best way to give me some feedback on the column, especially on the rare(!) occasion that I mess something up.

of today NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, January 22, are coming soon.

How to play the links

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you may see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to switch.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have one NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication Connections the archive. This includes any previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of the ones you missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my suggestions for each network via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the game date you need data on or search query answers for.

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page until you’re ready to discover today Connections answers.

This is your last warning!

of today Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow group — types of academic courses (DISCUSSION, LAB, LECTURE, SEMINAR)
  • Green group – the results of several excavations (HOLE, HOLE, PIT, GROUP)
  • Blue group – those wearing robes (BOXER, JUDGE, MONK, WIZARD)
  • Purple group — ____ up (BATTER, DOWN, BEARER, LAWYER)

I have no idea what the perfect game streak is, but seven is the best I can remember. My total band is also up to 10. Here’s how I got on:

I spent a long, long time looking at BOXER, LAB, and PIT, trying to convince myself that this must be three-quarters of a dog breed group, but nothing else made sense with them.

I finally figured out that the LAB had to go with the rest of the yellows. This meant that the PIT had to be one of the green ones as well.

It took me more than a few moments to shake the idea that BOTTOMS could only refer to “bell bottoms.” After clicking on that, BATTER, and CHIN—the three remaining words that weren’t job titles—it only took me a moment to figure out the purple link and submit it.

BATTER up is a baseball reference and CHIN up is an exercise and a way to tell someone not to get down on something. BOTTOMS up refers to tilting the bottom of a glass up to finish a drink. And LAWYER means get yourself a lawyer, because you’re probably being taken to court.

I haven’t pinned the blue link, but I probably should have. More jobs should require people to wear clothes, in all honesty.

That’s all there is for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and solutions for Thursday’s game if you need them.

PS Here’s another cut from my mega playlist, a little midweek shocker for you. “Steady, As She Goes” is a punchy number from The Raconteurs, one of Jack White’s many projects. It has a nice, pleasant groove to it:

Have a nice day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
