Looking for Sunday Links tips and answers instead? You can find them here:
Hey, everyone! Welcome to the start of a new week.
I hope those of you in the US who have a long weekend will make the most of it. After all, there is absolutely nothing important in the world today. Nothing at all.
TikTok went away and then came back, so if you want to spend all day scrolling through videos, that’s fine by me. You have my permission.
Before we go, I’ve started a discussion group about Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about any game (and other topics) with me and other people. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s a pleasure.
It’s also the best way to give me some feedback on the column, especially on the rare(!) occasion that I mess something up.
of today NYT Connections hints and answers for Monday, January 20th are coming right up.
How to play the links
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.
You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.
There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to help you see the connections between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.
Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you may see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to switch.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have one NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication Connections the archive. This includes any previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of the ones you missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my suggestions for each network via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the game date you need data on or search query answers for.

I got the shirt almost immediately. SPINACH was a dead giveaway. Popeye famously has ANCHOR tattoos on his giant forearms and he wields a PIPE.
With the forearm out of the way as part of a red herring of things attached to the arm, it was easy to spot the yellows. From there, COOKIE and FITTED made the purples visible enough for me. That left the greens (who I understood the link to) for a quick win.
That’s all there is for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and solutions for Tuesday’s game if you need them.
PS I’ve been doing these daily recommendations for over a year at this point and somehow I can’t believe I haven’t set up OK Go yet. The love OK Go. Such a fun group.
Their first album in over a decade is coming soon, and they just released their first single from it last week. OK Go are famous for their wildly creative music videos, and the one for “A Stone Only Rolls Downhill” is no exception. They used videos shot on 64 iPhones to create a stunning mosaic:
It’s worth watching the behind-the-scenes clip to understand how this ridiculous thing came together:
