ForbesNYT ‘Strands’ Tips and Answers for Saturday, January 18

Hey, people! of today NYT strands hints, spangram and answers for Sunday, January 19th are coming soon.

How to play Strands

The New York Times’ strands The puzzle is a classic word search game. It is available at NYT website and at NYT Games app along with the likes of Wordle AND Connections (which we also cover in daily guides on Forbes Gaming).

There is a new game strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight letter grid. The goal is to find a group of words that have something in common and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a topic word, it will remain highlighted in blue.

You will also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram connects at least two sides of the board, but may not start or end there. While subject words will not be a proper noun, spangram can be a proper noun. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Each letter is used once in one of the theme words and spangrams. You can connect letters vertically, horizontally and diagonally, and it is possible to switch directions in the middle of a word. If you’re playing on a touch screen, double-tap the last letter to submit your guess.

If you find three valid words with at least four letters that are not part of the theme, you will unlock the Hint button. Clicking this will highlight the letters that make up one of the topic words.

Warning: You will need to be on your feet. Sometimes you will need to fill in the missing words in a sentence. On other days, the game may revolve around synonyms or homophones. The difficulty will change from day to day and the puzzle makers will try to surprise you sometimes.

Data not too difficult to decipher. The “X” on the grid immediately caught my attention. So I found INBOX, DRAFTS and SPAM pretty quickly. The “email” was clearly part of the spangram, but I couldn’t figure out how.

STARED and SENT helped narrow things down a bit, leaving three words to find. TRASH and SNOOOZED then gave me the rest of the spangram letters, but it took me a second to figure out the “tag”.

I didn’t use any hints and spangram was the eighth word I found.
