ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Tips and Answers for Friday, January 17th

Hey, people! Welcome to the weekend. I hope you have got a really excellent lined up. I’m planning to do a few things back home that I’ve been putting off, but I’ll certainly find plenty of time to relax and fit in a workout or two.

Also, how about that Nintendo Switch 2, right? Not many surprises in the announcement, given all the leaks and rumors that have been circulating. I’ve no doubt I’ll be picking one up on launch day and eventually ditching it to play games on my PC or PS5 or Xbox or Steam Deck.

Before we go, I’ve started a discussion group about Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about any game (and other topics) with me and other people. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s a pleasure.

It’s also the best way to give me some feedback on the column, especially on the rare(!) occasion that I mess something up.

of today NYT Connections suggestions and answers for Saturday, January 18, are coming soon.

How to play the links

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you may see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still have to figure out which one to switch.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have one NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication Connections the archive. This includes any previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of the ones you missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my suggestions for each network via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game you need data for or answers to the search query.

Three perfect games in a row, and my total streak is up to six. Here’s how I got on:

I found this a little harder than some of the other games from the past few days, but it’s been a relatively easy week overall. I am beginning to fear what tomorrow may bring. We’re not too far from game 600 either.

In any case, the yellows were very direct here. After seeing the ALBUM and ARTIST next to each other, it only took a moment to figure out the t-shirt (despite the potential red herrings between LABEL and STICKER).

I had a bit of trouble with the greens and purples. SPINE, PAGE and CORNER could have gone together as part of a book. But once I realized SPINE, SPUR and THORN had to match, I realized STICKER had to go with them, even though I’ve never heard the word used in this context before.

However, I submitted the purples to the greens. I understood the connection there, as these are all common expressions.

That’s all there is for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and solutions for Sunday’s game if you need them.

PS My point about the blues reminded me of one of my favorite songs from the 90s. “Brimful of Asha” by Cornershop was already a very good song, but Fatboy Slim’s remix took it to new heights. I’ll be dancing to this all day:

Have a nice day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
