ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Tips and Answers for Thursday, January 16

Hey, everyone! The weekend is almost here, but we still have one more game Connections to enjoy before that.

It’s been a pretty quiet week in the end, work-wise, and in retrospect I probably could have found other ways to be productive. But it’s also January and last week was pretty hectic, so I won’t be too self-critical heading into the weekend.

Before we go, I’ve started a discussion group about Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about any game (and other topics) with me and other people. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s a pleasure.

It’s also the best way to give me some feedback on the column, especially on the rare(!) occasion that I mess something up.

of today NYT Connections suggestions and answers for Friday, January 17, are coming soon.

How to play the links

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you may see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still have to figure out which one to switch.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have one NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication Connections the archive. This includes any previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of the ones you missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my suggestions for each network via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game you need data for or answers to the search query.

What are the answers to today’s links?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page until you’re ready to discover today Connections answers.

This is your last warning!

of today Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow Group – Frankfurter (BANGER, BRAT, LINK, SAUSAGE)
  • Green group – strike (BOP, HIT, KNOCK, TAP)
  • Blue group – web browsers (CHROME, EDGE, OPERA, SAFARI)
  • Purple group — ending with beer brands (AUTOHARP, CONTRABASS, PEPPERONI, ROSEBUD)

There is no real difficulty with this. My second straight perfect game extends my streak to five games. Here’s how I got on:

The HIT, BANGER and BOP trio turned out to be a red herring, despite my initial suspicions. I thought CONTRABASS would probably have some puns. Why on earth would the network be any different?

Anyway, I picked up the blues as fast as a fox (fire). The greens were pretty clear so they were next. The net easily grouped what were definitely yellows together, but I submitted the purples first even though I didn’t understand that connection.

I’ve never heard of the Bass brand of beer before. The harp is one I haven’t thought about in a very long time. The others are Peroni and Bud(weiser).

However, I have a bigger problem with yellows. I tell you that all sausages are sausages, but not all sausages are frankfurters. Indeed, Merriam-Webster defines Frankfurter as “a cured cooked sausage.” I am not a fan of this band.

That’s all there is for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and solutions for Saturday’s game if you need them.

PS For those who don’t know, I’m Scottish and one of my favorite things about my country is that we can turn anything into an insult by adding a few words in front of it.

So the next time you see a loved one doing something inappropriate, I’d recommend calling them “an absolute sausage.” It goes by many, many names – “you absolute donut”, “you absolute spoon”, “you absolute hall monitor.” Try this, it’s fun (just don’t feel bad about it, please!).

Have a nice day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
