Black Ops 6 zombies players are getting the year off to a good start, as developer Treyarch revealed on Wednesday that a new zombie map, The Tomb, will launch at the start of the game’s second season on Tuesday, January 28.

We already knew that a new map would be revealed for 115 Day, Call of Duty’s annual zombie celebration, but no one expected such an early release date. Black Ops 6 is set to launch four zombie maps in four months, an unprecedented release schedule for the shooter franchise.

In addition to information about the new map, Treyarch pulled back the curtain on how well the zombie-driven mode is doing and shared details about the quality-of-life improvements that will roll out at the start of Season 2.

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming content release on January 28th.

What we know about the upcoming Black Ops 6 zombies map

Black Ops 6 players got their first look at some shots from inside the Tomb catacombs today.

Following the events of Citadelle des Morts, The Tomb will have Weaver, Maya, Carver and Gray delving into the heart of an ancient catacomb to rediscover a powerful artifact capable of helping them face the threat of dead

The new map is built from the ground up for zombies. I am not reusing any locations from the campaign or warzone modes.

The Tomb will be smaller than maps like Terminus and Citadelle des Morts, forcing engagements into tighter play areas. Treyarch cited Liberty Falls as a major contributor to the design philosophy for the new map, explaining that Black Ops 6’s launch map was the most revised zombie experience in recent years.

Fan-favorite weapons will return, including a vintage Black Ops SMG and a “Reimagined Wonder Weapon inspired by [Treyarch’s] the past.” While there’s no word yet on what these weapons will be, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 lightning weapon was featured prominently in the intro scene of Liberty Falls and has yet to appear in a Black Ops 6 zombie map.

In addition to the main Easter egg, The Tomb will have a strong focus on side Easter eggs — like the Liberty Falls bowling alley minigame and the bank vault. More information about the new map will be revealed in next week’s Season 2 blog.

Black Ops 6 Season 2 Quality of Life improvements revealed

It looks like the launch of Season 2 will mainly focus on improving the Black Ops 6 zombies experience, but that doesn’t mean the multiplayer mode is being left high and dry. There are four key changes being made to players’ quality of life at the start of Season 2.

  • Follow the multiplayer and zombie mode challenges: Players will now be able to track multiplayer and zombie challenges separately. In addition, players can now pin 10 challenges per mode at any given time — if no challenges are manually pinned, Black Ops 6 will show players the challenges that are closest to completion.
  • Separate HUDs for multiplayer and zombie modes: Players who want to use different heads-up screen layouts for different modes will now be able to do so without toggling each option every time they switch between multiplayer and zombies.
  • Cooperation pause: If everyone in a lobby is grouped into a single co-op party, banning in zombies mode will work as in a solo session. Most importantly, this feature won’t work unless you’re in a party with every player in your co-op game.
  • AFK Shot Charge Recovery: If you’ve been away from an AFKing zombie game for too long, you’re now able to rejoin the lobby and recover your weapons, gear, ribbons, and perks.

Black Ops 6 zombies Directed Mode is working as planned

Guided mode makes major easter eggs much easier, giving players plenty of time to build their arsenal of weapons, perks, armor, and more.

Activision

The final look we got for 115 Day focuses on the new zombies mode introduced in Black Ops 6: Directed Mode.

Treyarch created this mode to increase community participation in the zombie map’s main easter eggs — the round caps and guided objectives make the challenges much easier for new and casual players to complete.

Now, the developers have revealed that Directed Mode is working as they intended. While 3.38% of Call of Duty Zombies players completed the main easter egg on maps before the guided mode was introduced, this number has more than doubled with 8.23% of players completing the main easter eggs of Black Ops 6 maps.

Treyarch intends to continue looking for ways to make their zombie story more accessible to all players, but is optimistic about the results so far.

Maybe more players will be able to beat the zombie maps Black Ops 6 to 115 Day in 2026.
