ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Tips and Answers for Monday, January 13

Hey, people! I hope your week is off to a great start.

I’m kicking off 2025 by getting a few more essentials home… and some non-essentials. I don’t have a salt and pepper mill (shameful, I know) and I hate my shower curtain, so I need to replace that stat.

Also on the short-term list of things to bring out is a heated clothes rack. Otherwise, I don’t have a lot of space to hang things to air dry, and most of the clothes I’m buying these days don’t fit in the dryer, so maybe I should have one of those.

I really need to get a new couch as well, so I’ll start researching the replacement soon. Sorry, credit card! (Just kidding, I’ll pay the bill in full once I get the statement.)

Before we go, I’ve started a discussion group about Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about any game (and other topics) with me and other people. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s a pleasure.

It’s also the best way to give me some feedback on the column, especially on the rare(!) occasion that I mess something up.

of today NYT Connections hints and answers for Tuesday, January 14, are coming soon.

How to play the links

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you might see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to switch.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have one NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication Connections the archive. This includes any previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of the ones you missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my suggestions for each network via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the game date you need data on or search query answers for.

Two perfect games in a row is a great way to start a new streak. Here’s how I got on:

I wasn’t sure where to start here. My first thought was that SWANK would be more about the Hilary cast than the bling since it was next to FLASH on the network.

While I was looking at FUNCTIONAL, I realized the yellows. With a slightly smaller grid, I considered each word more carefully as I realized that SWANK probably had a pun involved and there was nothing else that made sense with GULLY. Voila, the violets were sorted.

After that, I realized that the net included parts of the camera, which left the greens (which I deduced the connection) for perfect consecutive games.

That’s all for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and solutions for Tuesday’s game if you need them.

PS I mentioned Eurovision in yesterday’s recommendation, so I guess I should mention my favorite song ever from the event. As soon as I heard Lorde’s “Hard Rock Hallelujah,” I knew she was going to win. To this day, I’m mad that I didn’t bet on the outcome since the song had such long odds. Also, the night Lorde won Eurovision, I danced to that song in a rock club. It was a fun evening:

Have a nice day! Make sure you drink enough water! Call someone you love!
