New Orleans, SBA opens recovery center to help businesses affected by terrorist attack

The Small Business Administration announced it was opening two centers for businesses to get information about financial resources available after the New Year’s Eve terrorist attack. The SBA is encouraging businesses and nonprofits throughout Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and St. Tammany to explore the assistance available through Economic Injury Disaster Loans. The program provides critical financial support to small businesses, agricultural cooperatives, aquaculture enterprises and most private non-profit organizations. The application deadline is October 3, and loan amounts are up to $2,000 based on an economic impairment assessment. Interest rates for small businesses are fixed at 4.00% and 3.625% for non-profit organizations. Applicants must have an acceptable credit history and ability to repay the loan. To further support recovery efforts, the SBA has opened two Business Recovery Centers to provide direct assistance: Palace Cafe (Fourth Floor), 605 Canal Street Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm Saturdays, 11am – 5pm New Orleans Main Public Library, 219 Loyola Ave. Monday – Friday, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Saturdays 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM Applicants can apply online at SBA.gov/disaster or visit a BRC.
