ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ tips and answers for Saturday, January 11

Hey, gang! I hope you had a great weekend.

I really want and need to be in better shape. To help with this, a friend suggested I try an under-desk elliptical. He said he has been using it regularly and has lost several pounds in just a few weeks.

This would be part of a wider fitness regime for me. Since I’m at my desk for more than seven hours a day anyway, it can be a way to stay active and burn some calories while I’m working. Now I just need to do some research to find the best elliptical (if you have any recommendations, let me know!).

Before we go, I’ve started a discussion group about Connections and this column on Discord. You can chat about any game (and other topics) with me and other people. I’m always interested to find out how other people approach the game, so join us! It’s a pleasure.

It’s also the best way to give me some feedback on the column, especially on the rare(!) occasion that I mess something up.

of today NYT Connections hints and answers for Sunday, January 12, are coming soon.

How to play the links

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play in NYT the Games website or app.

You are presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by finding the connections between them. Groups can be things like clickable items, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part.

There is only one solution to each puzzle and you will have to be careful when it comes to words that can fit into more than one category. You can mix the words to help you see the connections between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to understand, the blue and green fall in between, and the purple group is usually the hardest. The purple group often includes puns.

Choose four words that you think go together and press submit. If you make a guess and are incorrect, you will lose a life. If you’re close to making a correct set, you might see a message telling you that you’re just one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to switch.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some tips and, if you’re really struggling, today Connections answers. How about me Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share scores with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have one NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication Connections the archive. This includes any previous games of Connectionsso you can go back and play any of the ones you missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my suggestions for each network via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the game date you need data on or search query answers for.

What are the answers to today’s links?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll down the page until you’re ready to discover today Connections answers.

This is your last warning!

of today Connections the answers are…

  • Yellow group — fiction (Fairy tale, FANTASY, FICTION, Invention)
  • Green group – lovers (CHARM, COURT, CHASE, ROMANCE)
  • Blue Group – classic Atari games (ASTEROIDS, BREAKOUT, CENTIPEDE, DEFENDER)
  • Purple group — things with tails (COIN FLIP, COMET, DRESS PAGE, SONIC IRIK)

I can’t believe I didn’t get this. My streak is over after seven wins. Here’s how I got on:

🟪🟪

🟩

🨟🨟🨟

🦟

I tried to work backwards here after going through what I thought were the blues (the classic video games), the fakes (the yellows), and trying to date (the greens). But I had a near miss with the remnants, what I assumed would be a purple cluster of comets, coin flips, DEFENSE, and DRESS PAGE. I was one away from a group there, and DEFENDER could have gone with the video games, so I took a gamble that didn’t pay off. Nuts.

With my reverse rainbow dream dead, I quickly removed the greens and yellows. I suppose that COMETS, ASTEROIDS and SONIC HEDGEHOG might have formed a group of things that travel very fast. But no, there was definitely a bunch of games here.

I made the terrible mistake of not trying to figure out the connection between COMETS, COIN TOS, and CLOTHES PAPER to find the ultimate word/phrase for purples. Instead, I tried to brute force my way through multiple guesses about the blues that carried SONIC THE HEDGEHOG every time. I was sure it had to be one of the blue ones, but nope! I didn’t remember that Tails (a cute little fox with two tails that can be used for thrusting) is Sonic’s sidekick.

I am both pleased and very angry with myself for this!! I played often Sonic 2 with my cousin when we were kids and I always liked to play as Tails to support him (maybe that explains why I prefer to play as support in Overwatch 2 these days). So I knew. I also knew the blues were all Atari games.

I doubt this game will break many streaks. But maybe we can turn it into a technique since Tails didn’t show up sonic the hedgehog, the original game in the series – he debuted in Sonic 2.

Side note: it took me until an incredibly late age to realize that Tails’ real name, Miles Prower, was a pun. It’s “miles per hour”.

That’s all for today Connections data and response. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for tips and solutions for Monday’s game if you need them.

PS Ugh, I’m so bored I don’t want to include a recommendation today.

Just kidding. I need to sing and dance to some loud music to wash this frustration away, so here’s “A Certain Shade Of Green” by Incubus (I suppose an Atari Teenage Riot song would be more appropriate, but alas ):

I also have yet to check Atari 50! I haven’t played the collection yet, so I can’t officially recommend it, but it looks cool:

Have a nice day! Make sure you drink enough water! Call someone you love!
